An easy way to add content to my existing websites is to purchase groups of articles on subjects that are related to my business. Such articles are popularly called “PLR articles” or “Private Label Rights” articles. They have been in demand as of lately because they provide content in bulk and I can use it in various ways - as articles for my website, blog entries, forum posts, auto-responder messages - the possibilities are endless. It is easy to locate them and purchase them but, to get the most out of these articles, we must consider re-writing them.

What I like about PLR’s is that it can be used as is and can be marketed as if I wrote it myself or I can refer to it as research material for a project I am putting together. I love that someone else has already done the hard work and did the research for me and put the ideas into an article and I get to reap the benefits.

However, there is a drawback.

These same articles may be purchased by a number of other website owners who want to use them for their own websites, blogs, and auto-responder messages too. If that happens, then, we will all have the same exact content - not so good - makes us non-original.

The best way to use PLR’s to our benefit is to re-write them and tweak them a bit.

If you think about it, if we use the PLR article as is, without changing a single word, it could be damaging to our business. Why? The reason is because search engines can ignore our site for duplicate content. Only one website will be ranked higher than the others and chances are it won’t be ours if there are already several other sites using the same content.

The great thing about PLR articles is that they can be used over and over again. One trick I can share is that when we re-write the PLR article, we need to re-write them in such a way that our readers will find it useful. The thought of re-writing may be daunting especially if writing is not our strongest asset. Note though, that it is easier than most people think. We can either do it ourselves or outsource the re-writing to a virtual assistant.

A trick we can apply to re-writing PLR articles is to personalize the article. Perhaps they deal with an area the we have a personal experience with. We can use that experience by adding a personal anecdote or maybe a short snippet from our life to add more impact to the article. Readers like knowing that the writer of the content is a true to life - human being - one who can relate to where they are coming from.

If we are re-writing an article about parenting little children, let’s add some of our personal parenting tips that we have experienced. Readers will appreciate the honesty and will give them the incentive to use the tip to their advantage. Now we have gotten their attention and hopefully, they would like us and remember to return to our site again for more advice and to take advantage of our products and/or services.
